Resting eternally in the ocean's depths is the 'SS Tilawa',

often referred to as the 'Indian Titanic'.

On a tragic night in 1942 during World War II,

it was hit by two torpedoes from Japanese forces,

sinking immediately into the ocean's abyss.

Along with it, 281 passengers and crew members,

as well as a staggering 2,391 silver bars,

were forever lost to the depths of the sea.

These silver bars, originally obtained by the

South African Federation from India for coin production,

met an untimely and tragic fate.

It wasn't until 2017 that Argentum Exploration Ltd.

decided to investigate this mysterious region,

embarking on a quest for the 'S.S. Tilawa'.

Deep within the Indian Ocean,

4.2 kilometers beneath the surface,

they successfully salvaged the 2,391 silver bars.

These silver bars were brought to the UK Legal battles

ensued over the ownership of the silver, ultimately leading to a ruling by

the UK Supreme Court recognizing the Republic of South Africa as the owner.

These silver bars now serve as a stark reminder of

the harsh realities of war, urging us to cherish peace and strive to

prevent the recurrence of such historical tragedies.
